Old Testament In a Year: March 8 – Leviticus 25

Leviticus 25
Focus Verse: And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan. – Leviticus 25:10

For the Israelites, the year of jubilee was 365 days of Sabbaths in which the land and the people rested. Everyone celebrated and rejoiced all year long. No one did any work.

The year of jubilee was also a time when everyone was released from all types of debt and bondage. Prisoners were let out of prison. Captives were released. Slaves were set free. Debt was forgiven. Those who had sold property received it back.

Christ’s first coming marked the beginning of your jubilee. Through His birth, life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension He let you out of the prison of sin. His light released you from being a captive of darkness. You are no longer a slave to Satan’s ungodliness. He has forgiven your debt of sin forever. You have entered into His eternal rest.

When your faith is in Christ, every year is a year of jubilee.
