Old Testament In a Year: May 4 – 1 Samuel 23; Psalms 54, 63

1 Samuel 23; Psalms 54, 63
Focus Verse: Therefore David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” – 1 Samuel 23:2

Why was David successful in everything that he did? Why were his enemies unable to defeat him? Because David sought God’s help and direction before he did anything. When David heard about the situation in Keilah, he first asked God if he should go and fight against the Philistines and save the city. When he saw that some of his men were afraid to go to Keilah and fight the Philistines, he again asked God if they should go do it. God told David both times that they should, so they did.

Later, after David and his men had fought against the Philistines and saved Keilah, Saul heard that David was there and came up to the city to try to kill him. Once again, David asked God if Saul would come and if the men of Keilah would hand him over. God answered that they would and David and his men were able to escape from the city before Saul arrived.

When you spend time in prayer to God and are humble enough to seek the perfect plan that He has for your life, you can trust Him to guide you in the way that you should go. He will never guide you wrong. Every question that you ask of Him, He will give a right answer. He will deliver you from every trouble. He will help you and will uphold your life.
