Old Testament In a Year: May 5 – 1 Samuel 24, 25, 26, 27

1 Samuel 24, 25, 26, 27
Focus Verse: Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodguilt and from working salvation with my own hand! – 1 Samuel 25:33

When someone does you wrong, your first reaction may be to repay their evil with evil. This is how David reacted when he and his men were treated rudely by Nabal. If it hadn’t been for Nabal’s discerning and beautiful wife, Abigail, David and his men would have murdered Nabal, as well as the men who worked for him. They would have been guilty of shedding innocent blood and of making vengeance theirs, instead of leaving it to God.

How much better was it for David to take Abigail’s advice and let God punish Nabal? At the time, David didn’t know how God would repay Nabal’s evil to him, but he had to trust that God would handle the situation better than he ever could.

You may not know how God will repay the evil in your life or how He will work salvation for you, but if you trust Him, He will work things out every time.
