Behind the Story: Rapunzel is a fairy tale favorite. It became even more of a favorite of mine after Disney released their 2010 twist on the story with Tangled. The original Rapunzel fairy tale and Tangled are different in more ways than one, but both are delightful nonetheless. Gomer’s story is told in the book of her husband, Hosea. Hosea was a faithful prophet of God while Gomer was a prostitute. Despite her lifestyle, God told Hosea to take Gomer as his wife and he did. They married and had three children: a boy named Jezreel, a girl named Lo-Ruhamah, and another boy called Lo-Ammi. Gomer soon became disillusioned with her new life as a wife and mother. She left her family and returned to her old ways of promiscuity and immorality.
Even before we arrived, it was pretty much guaranteed that we would make mistakes. At some point in our lives, we would end up failing at something or disappointing ourselves and others. It shouldn’t surprise us that we aren’t perfect. Imperfection is one word that describes everyone. No one is an exception.
Do you ever wake up on a morning where the sun is shining and the birds are singing only to spill breakfast all over your clothes, miss the bus, and watch the rest of the day get screwed up? Or do you wake up on a rainy morning and just know that something unfortunate is going to happen? In life, many days may seem to turn out that way but even if we cannot always see the beauty, remember that God makes every day beautiful.
