Luke 1:39-56
(39-45) Mary Visits Elizabeth
It was probably the Holy Spirit that let Elizabeth know that the baby in Mary’s womb was no ordinary babe – but her Savior and Lord, Jesus the Christ. She asked in exclamation, “Why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Before Christ was even born, Elizabeth believed in Him. She recognized Mary as blessed. She recognized Mary’s baby as blessed. She also recognized as blessed anyone who believes that what God has told them will be fulfilled.

There can be no question that God gives us promises. But are we passive toward receiving His promises, or do we fully believe (active faith) that each and every one of them will be fulfilled?

(46-56) Mary’s Song of Praise: The Magnificat
Mary took no credit for the blessing she was carrying inside. Instead, she looked on herself as a “humble estate” and as “his servant”. She gave all glory to God that He had chosen her to bear His Son.

Mary’s soul magnified the Lord, not herself. Mary’s spirit rejoiced in God, not herself. She recognized that God had done great things for her. When the impossible takes place in our lives, do we give ourselves a pat on the back or do we credit the One who really made it possible?

Favorite verse: (45) And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
