1 Year In God’s Word: Day 290 — 2 Chronicles 35, Habakkuk 1-3, Acts 25

2 Chronicles 35
Focus Verse: His officials also contributed voluntarily to the people and the priests and Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah and Jehiel, the officials in charge of God’s temple, gave the priests twenty-six hundred Passover offerings and three hundred cattle. (8)

Josiah’s officials contributed voluntarily to the work of the Lord. They didn’t have to be told to do so. They didn’t have to be made to do so. God is pleased when we take the initiative and do things for Him of our own accord.

Habakkuk 1
Focus Verse: How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? (2)

The prophet Habakkuk cries out to God about the pervasive violence in Israel. He wonders why God does not do anything to stop it. He wonders why God tolerates wrongdoing and allows destruction, strife and conflict to go unpunished. Habakkuk wonders why the law is ignored and justice never prevails. He wonders why the wicked often prevail over the righteous. When you read or watch the news, do you often feel like Habakkuk? Do you wonder why God “allows” so much to go wrong in the world?

Habakkuk 2
Focus Verse: For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. (14)

When God finally overthrows unrighteousness on earth once and for all, all people will be able to recognize the glory of the Lord. Hebrews 1:3 says Jesus the Christ is the radiance of God’s glory. And 2 Corinthians 4:6 says the light of the knowledge of God’s glory is displayed in the face of Jesus the Christ. When Christ reigns, all people will see and experience the glorious glory of God.

Habakkuk 3
Focus Verse: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. (18)

The “yet” attitude is one that every Christian believer should have. Though we don’t have a lot of money in the bank, though our dream car is not sitting in the garage, though our job situation is not the most pleasant in the world and our lives are not exactly going the way we planned for them to go, yet we will rejoice in the Lord and be joyful in God our Savior. Our confidence is in God who is our strength. He will enable us to walk on higher heights if we trust in Him.

Acts 25
Focus Verse: If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!” (11)

Jesus predicted that Christians would be falsely accused on account of His name. Even in such situations, believers should consider themselves blessed. Matthew 5:11 says, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.”
